Prof. Mathew Tsamenyi is the President and CEO of Nova Business School Africa. A globally recognized scholar and leader in the field of accounting and management practice, he brings over three decades of academic, executive education, and consulting experience to Nova. Prior to his appointment in April 2025, he served as Professor of Accounting and Executive Director at CEIBS Africa for 10 years, contributing significantly to the growth of the institution and its academic excellence across the continent.
Prof. Tsamenyi has held academic positions at the University of Birmingham, University of Sheffield, City University of Hong Kong, and visiting appointments in several universities across Africa, Asia, and South America. He was the founding President of the African Accounting and Finance Association (2011-2015) and the founding Chair of the British Accounting and Finance Association’s special interest group on emerging economies (2012-2014). He is the co-founding editor of the Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies and the co-editor of the Handbook of Accounting and Development. He has served on editorial boards of leading journals including the Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal and the Journal of Accounting and Organizational Change. Prof. Tsamenyi has supervised over 15 PhD students.
His professional expertise spans corporate governance, financial analysis, and performance management, having consulted for a wide range of global institutions including the African Development Bank, UNCTAD, the Netherlands Universities Foundation for International Cooperation (NUFFIC) and several African governments. He has led and contributed to research projects funded by global institutions including CIMA UK and the Nuffield Foundation. He is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and serves on the board of Parkstone Capital, a Fund Management Company in Ghana. Prof. Tsamenyi continues to shape accounting research, education, and practice across developed and emerging economies.
