Dr. Riverson Oppong brings extensive global expertise spanning decades across the oil & gas and energy sectors. He currently serves as the CEO and Industrial Coordinator of the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) in Ghana, where he champions a favourable business climate, fosters industry collaboration, and influences pivotal policy decisions for the downstream petroleum industry. His previous roles include significant contributions as Manager of Commercial Operations at Ghana National Gas Company, where he was instrumental in Ghana’s Energy Sector Recovery Programme. He served on the National Energy Transition Technical Committee and participated in the review of Ghana’s Gas Master Plan and Natural Gas Pricing Policy. He has also been instrumental in determining the Weighted Cost of Delivered Gas Prices in Ghana’s energy sector. Dr. Oppong is also the Africa Regional Director of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and a Board Director of SPE International.
With solid technical and commercial expertise in oil and gas field development planning and portfolio management, Dr. Oppong specializes in interpreting value creation potential for energy businesses. As consultant on numerous international oil and gas projects in Kazakhstan, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Iraq, and Russia, his approach is characterized by diligence, innovation, and technology-driven solutions.
An accomplished academic, Dr. Oppong also serves as Adjunct Lecturer at Ghana Technology University College (Coventry University Campus), and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast and Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). He is a prolific speaker and has shared his insights at major international conferences, alongside publishing numerous influential papers and books in the field of energy economics and policy.
His contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the SPE International Century Club Award, Osagyefo Leadership Award, and the Rising Star award from the Ghana Energy Awards.
